Beracah (“Place of Blessing“) is a one-bedroomed, self-catering Garden cottage with lounge, fully-equipped kitchen, and bathroom with shower.

In a secure setting, it is a great spot for a couple or single person to find some peace from the “noise” and stresses of daily life, or to rest and heal.

It is also a great venue for your choice of Reset Retreat, for those suffering from burnout or recovering from trauma. It is a safe place where one can receive prayer and guidance (i.e be mentored) during your stay, as a Christian choice for recovery, instead of secular options. It is also often used as a relaxing holiday getaway.

Get away and come and enjoy our little space of solitude.

Beracah Cottage is found on a privately owned sheep and cattle farm, situated on the escarpment in the Thomas River area, between Stutterheim and Cathcart, in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.

The terrain is typical rugged South African grassveld and thornveld where Springbok, Mountain Reedbuck, Blesbuck, Impala and Kudu can be spotted. Other small animals such as Duiker, Warthog, Jackals, the odd Mongoose or Meerkat can also be seen while you are exploring.

In 2020, six Zebra were introduced to Rexfield Farm for the very first time!

Birders can enjoy a variety of Birdlife and some bigger species that may be spotted are: the Cape Vulture, African harrier-hawk (Gymnogene), Jackal Buzzard, the Blue Crane, the Crowned (Crested) Crane, and Secretary Birds,  amongst others.

Mountain Biking, Trail Running and Hiking are all popular in the Thomas River area. Feel free to bring your bike to explore the farm or surrounding areas if you like!

It is lovely to run or hike anywhere on the farm. It is also possible to run on the gravel farm roads and one is welcome to take our dogs along anytime for company. We have begun to mark trails and maps of the farm are available to use.

Hunting and Bass Fishing are possible, but if you are interested in either, please notify us at the time of your booking, as the possibility to do so will depend on a variety of factors.

Other ways you can spend your time are:

  • Attempt our family friendly BLUE ROUTE (4km Hike)
  • Take a drive around the RING OF REXFIELD (10km)
  • Enjoy a PICNIC anywhere on the farm
  • Go for SUNDOWNERS at Sunset Rocks
  • Fly a KITE on the runway
  • Experience a FOOT THERAPY or RESET session
  • Watch SHEEP SHEARING (in season) or MILKING of the cows (in season)
  • Buy COFFEE or watch it being roasted (R50 per 250g)
  • Order a delivery of FARM FARE (when available): Fresh Farm Milk, 6 Free-range Eggs and a loaf of freshly baked Bread (R50)

Burger Nights: Enjoy a delicious “Build a Burger” (deconstructed burger) with Potato wedges, delivered to you to enjoy in the privacy of the cottage OR upon request for special occasions for singles or couples ONLY, a homemade Burger and dessert, can be enjoyed on the Farmhouse Verandah.

Picnic Boxes: A picnic box can be arranged for an outing on the farm.

Please note: We are essentially a SELF-CATERING establishment, so these options are added extras and subject to availability.

For all of the above pre-booking is essential.

Thomas River Tavern is approximately 15 minutes away and is a lovely spot to spend an afternoon; exploring the antique museums and stone art, visiting the Chapel, having a swim and enjoying a scrumptious Pub Lunch. Kiddies can enjoy the play area too.

Rexfield is 30km from both Stutterheim and Cathcart, where one can purchase emergency supplies, grab a cup of coffee at one of the coffee shops (Vinkel & Koljander in Stutt is recommended) or do a hike to the waterfall in the Stutterheim Forest. Stutterheim also hosts PARK RUN every Saturday morning at the Country Club.

Both Stutterheim and Cathcart have doctors on hand to help in an emergency.
