In order to understand the world, one has to turn away from it on occasion.” -Albert Camus

The Christian concept of a “retreat” can be defined as a definite time spent away from one’s normal life and routine, for the purpose of reconnecting, usually in prayer, with God.

As people’s lives get busier and busier, the act of spending a specific time away with God to soak in his Presence is becoming more and more popular.

To retreat means ‘to withdraw’. It’s a deliberate stepping away from our full schedules and daily demands. It’s a purposeful and deliberate slowing down of ourselves to put aside burdens and worries in our life and to take time out for the benefit of our health and wellbeing; not only spiritually, but also emotionally and physically. It’s taking time to reflect on who we are, where we have been and where we are going. As we do so, we are given space and time to have a clearer vision and perception of life; and in the quiet, we become more aware of the presence of God in our lives. It is then that we are able to hear his still, small voice speaking to us.

Jesus set the example for us by fasting in the desert for forty days and this is often used as a biblical justification for retreats.

But Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer. Luke 5:16

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Mark 1:35

After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone. Matthew 14:23

And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” Mark 6:31

Soul Care Retreat

For a Soul Care Retreat, come and take time out on your own, to give attention to those areas of your soul that have been neglected. While you stay at Beracah Cottage book one-on-one counselling and prayer sessions.

This is ideal for those who are feeling “lost” or “stuck in a rut”, seeking breakthrough or healing in their lives.

Solitude Retreat

For a Solitude Retreat, come and stay in Beracah Cottage- ALONE. Take time out to rest, reflect, pray, meditate, or use your time alone to reconnect with God and Nature through various outdoor activities in the area.

The use of a Manual to direct your time is available, but optional. The Beracah Cottage is also an excellent place to get away to be able to Fast or Detox (like a Gut or Liver Cleanse) in a safe and distraction- free environment.

Moms and Daughters

The relationship between Mom and Daughter is so precious, yet often during the teenage years that relationship comes under attack from many outward influences and distance is created. Moms, bring your teenage daughters for a healing and reconnecting time together. Sometimes, teenagers/ young ladies need to find a “safe place” to off-load their burdens or to heal from traumatic or hurting circumstances.

Bring (or send) your daughter to Beracah to provide her with the opportunity to find the healing and direction she may need.
